As a Trauma-Informed Counselor (M.Ed.) and a Trauma-Informed Yoga Instructor (YogaFit RYT 200), my focus is to guide you toward a deeper connection with your breath, mind, and body. Yin Yoga

Experience a rejuvenating 60-minute session dedicated to fascia release, where gentle stress is applied through carefully held postures for durations of 3 to 6 minutes. These sessions are designed to be both gentle and active, promoting a deep recharge of the nervous system. Participants will notice improvements in sleep quality, enhanced hydration of the fascia, and increased mobility. Whether you are a beginner or more experienced, these classes accommodate all levels and mobility, with options for 30, 60, 75, and 90-minute sessions. Join us to restore balance and flexibility in both body and mind.

Nestled in the heart of Amalga Meadows Park, on the beautiful lands of the Aak’w Kwáan on Lingít Aání, our retreat takes place at the enchanting Eagle Valley Center Lodge, surrounded by lush forests, ocean shores, meadows, and streams.

This three-day retreat is a premium self-care experience, offering space to heal, move, reflect, and reconnect—all while enjoying nourishing, locally sourced meals prepared with care by me and my family.

  • Five delicious, locally sourced meals, featuring salmon and halibut caught on our family boat, the FV Mac & Water, alongside handcrafted jams, syrups, and garden-to-table delights.

Hi, I’m Gretchen, founder of The Yoga Den by Water & Company.

I am thrilled to bring the yoga studio experience to you—wherever you are in your journey. With an M.Ed. in Counseling and certification as a Hatha Yoga teacher, I specialize in gentle vinyasa yoga, guiding students toward greater mobility, flexibility, and self-awareness. As a trauma-informed yoga instructor, my work focuses on healing grief and trauma through mindful movement and intentional breathwork.

For over 26 years, I dedicated my career to secondary education, serving as a high school counselor and psychology teacher in Juneau, Alaska. Now, I continue my passion for teaching by leading gentle yoga and Educational Psychology at UAS, as well as classes at JRC Fitness Center. In the summer, I host Earth, Fire & Water Alaskan yoga and wellness retreats and curate yoga experiences for special events, weddings, and private gatherings.

My Yoga Journey

Yoga first found me in my teen years, as I recovered from back trauma caused by figure skating and tennis. As a multi-sport athlete (softball included!), I had spent years pushing my body without prioritizing recovery—until I had no choice. Stretching, slowing down, and moving with intention became essential—not just for healing sports injuries, but for processing life’s deeper wounds.

At 14, I lost my mother, and yoga became my anchor through grief and physical recovery. It was more than just movement; it was a balancing force, sustaining me for over 30 years. When persistent back and foot pain reemerged later in life, I began to understand what yoga had been teaching me all along: the body holds our trauma. This realization deepened my commitment to helping others use yoga as a tool for healing.

The Calling to Share Yoga

In 2022, my yoga journey brought me to Rishikesh, India, reaffirming my belief in yoga as a path to self-discovery and healing. I am especially drawn to working with those who are:
Healing their inner child
Seeking greater mobility and independence as we age
Looking for balance in life—physically, mentally, and emotionally

Yoga has been a lifelong source of renewal for me, and I am grateful to share its transformative power with you. My practice continues to evolve, and I embrace the lessons yet to come.

I am a RYT 200 Hatha Yoga teacher and counselor, trained and certified through YogaFit and Sattva Yoga Academy in Rishikesh, India. As a registered and insured Yoga Alliance instructor, I specialize in:

My recent studies and practice in Rishikesh, India—the birthplace of yoga—have profoundly deepened my understanding of yoga as a journey of self-discovery. I believe that yoga enhances quality of life by improving mobility, flexibility, and inner awareness, empowering us to move through life with greater ease and resilience.
