The Yoga Den by Water & Company is a mobile yoga studio originating in Juneau, Alaska in the heart of the Tongass National Forest, and surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. We host Summer Yoga Retreats, Weddings, Special Events, and Private yoga sessions. Whether you are new to yoga or an experienced yogi, I will tailor a unique class to your unique needs and goals. Let's experience an Alaskan yoga adventure together.
Gretchen teaches gentle Hatha Vinyasa yoga classes that allow you to forge a deeper connection with your breath, mind, and body. Weddings, bridal showers, bachelorette parties, and birthday parties will be tailored especially to you. For individual, partner and group yoga sessions, we will develop a yoga class/sequence that will allow for you to explore your individual goals and needs. Retreats are held in the summer season, and activities will align with the elements. All yoga experiences include personalized sequences for your mobility needs, goal setting, special playlists, and are unique to you.

Enjoy long Alaskan summer days and nights at the Earth, Fire, & Water Yoga and Wellness Retreat this Summer 2024. Located on the beautiful lands of the Aak’w Kwáan on Lingít Aání of Juneau, Alaska, we will stay at the SAGA Eagle Valley Center Lodge in the Amalga Meadows Park in heart of the Tongass National Forest. This three day retreat is a premium experience in self care and fun.
This well rounded weekend will include five delicious locally sourced meals, ample time to relax, space for writing and goal setting workshop, puzzling, bonfires, and share great company with other like minded folks looking to deepen their practice and find their solace. We will experience a fire ceremony (called a yagya in Sanskrit), to embrace the new and let go of the old dusty things holding us back from living fully.
Enjoy a weekend away from social media and to do lists (unless you love to do lists), tune in to the nature and beauty among the elements of the enchanting Southeast Alaskan rainforest. Come and share meals together, practice morning and evening yoga, find time for self reflection and stillness. Walk (or sit) among the Spruce and Hemlock trees, or daydream in the giant Amalga Meadows by the stream, or sit by the ocean shore and replenish your mind/body connection. Get in touch with your whole self at this one of a kind yoga and wellness retreat. Restore and renew this summer at the Earth, Fire & Water Yoga Retreat presented by Water & Company. To keep it real, 10 participants is the maximum for the overnight, 15 for day participation. Our locally sourced meals include salmon and halibut caught on our family boat, the Mac & Water, with local cuisine crafted by our friends, family, and former students. Herbs and fruits foraged here, garden to table for you. An experience to remember for the ages.

I'll lead a personalized yoga experience for you!
Hi, my name is Gretchen and I am the founder of the Yoga Den by Water & Company. I am thrilled to bring the yoga studio experience to you. I have an M.Ed. in Counseling, and am a certified Hatha Yoga teacher. I teach gentle vinyasa yoga with goals of helping you increase your mobility, flexibility, and encourage our self awareness. I am a trauma informed yoga instructor, with extensive work in overcoming grief and trauma through mindful movement.
I recently finished one life chapter in secondary education as a h.s. school counselor and psychology teacher for over 26 years in Juneau, Alaska. I currently teach gentle yoga (and Educational Psychology) at our local university UAS, and teach at JRC fitness center. During the summer months host Earth, Fire & Water Alaskan summer yoga and wellness retreats, and create yoga experiences for special events, weddings, and parties.
I began practicing yoga during my teens when recovering from back trauma from figure skating and tennis. As a triple sport athlete (softball too, I paid little mind to stretching until I needed to. Until I had to stretch and slow down, be intentional, and heal sport trauma, and as it turns out from life's trauma too. From the pressures of performance athletics, work, parental pressures, yoga can have a transformative power.
Yoga became a tool to heal both physical trauma from sports injury, while simultaneously grieving the loss of my mother at age 14. The physical flow of yoga, for an athlete, became the balance that I have relied upon to sustain my practice for more than 30 years. When I began to experience back and foot pain that challenged me psychology to perform consistently, and emotionally because I didn't have an explanation for why the injury kept appearing in the same regions (the body holds our trauma).
My yoga journey most recently brought me to Rishikesh, India in 2022 and that trip affirmed my calling to share yoga with others, those curious to heal the child within, and who want to continue living with with more fluidity, mobility, and independence as we age gracefully and fully through our yoga practices. I have developed a deep appreciation for all that yoga has given me. I also realize how much more I still have yet to learn.
Yoga has been a source of healing for me for most of my life and I want to share the benefits with you.
Yoga has the potential to help us feel youthful, vibrant, physically independent, and more centered.
